Chimeny Fountain
The beautiful Chimney Fountain is located north of SW Lincoln between 3rd and 4th of Portland, Oregon. This small red-brick fountain provides the illusion of water flowing from between the bricks of a chimney. Accordingly, the inconspicuous Chimney Fountain is one of the lesser known fountains of the Portland Water Bureau. This diminutive fountain is tucked quietly away on SW Lincoln between where the Chimney Fountain is easy to miss. The Chimney Fountain was named as such because it looks very obviously like a chimney. The Chimney Fountain is a very serene hideaway on a hot summer day because of the illusion of water flowing between the bricks. The fountain was installed as part of the 1960’s South Auditorium Project. The South Auditorium Project was the Portland Development Commission’s first urban renewal project. The Chimney Fountain is the southernmost of all the downtown fountains. The South Auditorium project was called "the greatest downtown project in the country," by then chairman of the Professional Developers Conference, Ira Keller. Ira Keller cited this overall project as his proudest accomplishment.
